Lead Vocals

Martin’s singing career started in the church choir and then made the obvious move in to punk rock. His first punk band, who’s name is too embarrassing  to mention included John Kettle and David Elsmore who went on to find fame with The Tansads and Discharge respectively.

In the band that morphed out of that original line up Martin played drums in what by then had become a covers band. After that Martin drifted away from music until The Blue Emus were formed in the late 90’s who line up also included Bass player Steve. The band lasted for around three years until Martin and Steve joined up with the rest of the gang to form Imposter.

Lead Guitarist

Paul has been playing guitar since he was 10. He started performing in his first band at the age of 13 which was formed along with Gary, and has been playing lead guitar in local bands on and off ever since.

Paul’s wide musical influences range from Bach to Bowie and Aretha to Zeppelin. His playing styles include classical fingerpicking through to more contemporary styles such as rock, folk and blues.

Gary started playing guitar around 1970, joining up with fellow Imposter Paul a couple of years later to form a band which ultimately became Radar, a pretty well known teenage cabaret band playing the northern clubs. Gary was also lead vocalist with Radar who covered hits of the day alongside older classics, sharing the stage with amongst others, Faith Brown, Stan Boardman, Phil Cool, The Rocking Berries and Emile Ford.

University called in 1980 and that was pretty much the end of Gary’s musical career until he and Paul once again got together around 20 years later, initially as a bit of fun at a birthday party, before joining forces with the other guys to form Imposter.

Gary has an eclectic musical taste and can be heard warbling anything from Led Zeppelin to musical theatre.

Bass Guitar

Steve took up bass playing about 13 years ago initially to fill a gap left by his impending retirement from rugby. Within 12 months he had joined his first band ‘The Blue Emus’ along with ‘Imposter’ lead singer Martin. They stayed together for 5 years until an acrimonious break up. Steve then became a founder member of ‘Imposter’ and has been with them ever since surviving a couple of line up changes, several names and numerous bass changes, much to the amusement of his band mates. Steve uses Lakland and Fender basses and Matamp amplification.

Steve’s musical influences are quite varied from oldies such as Bruce Springsteen, Paul Weller, The Jam, The Smiths, Ocean Colour Scene and the Stereophonics right through to the likes of The Killers and Kings of Leon.

Drums & Percussion

Richy’s first steps into the music world started back in the early ‘80s. Following an impulse purchase, he began learning to play his first drum kit. 12 months later Richy joined his first band ‘Ex-Offenders’ playing post-punk/rock music to anyone who would listen on the pub & club circuit in and around Liverpool.

By the mid-late ‘80s Richy’s priorities had taken a different direction and he had hung his sticks up for good. However, following another impulse purchase in the early ‘00s, Richy found himself with another kit and auditioning for a new band. A short while later the present band took shape and, following several early name changes, settled for the name ‘Imposter’.

Richy’s musical tastes are varied and his influences are many. A quick glance through his music collection would reveal everything from Abba to ZZ Top.

What do our customers think?

"We booked Imposter for our wedding in November last year and they were outstanding! Not only are they very talented musicians and vocalists, they are also very professional and conscientious in their approach."
